September 17, 2012It's a Damn Cruise Ship"We’re so structured and micromanaged, this isn’t a world anymore, it’s a damn cruise ship.” - Chuck Palahniuk There's a large part of our society that is perfectly content living the same lives as everyone else; go to college, get a comfortable little corporate job, go on vacation two weeks a year, play golf on the weekends, get an expensive car and some nice designer clothes. There are others that wouldn't be caught dead in that situation. It's not a bad thing to be one way or the other, but it's safe to say that our society favors the former type. That's why it's comforting to see things like The Builders Jam in Hannover, Germany where people come together, not because of financial gain, or something to add to their resumé, but simply out of love for what they do. It is also heartbreaking to see corporate interest and fear of breaking the status quo of normal, boring, pleasant lives interfere with a good thing, like what happened in Oakland last year. This DIY skatepark was not making the city any money, so they had it destroyed to make room for a billboard, because if there's one thing Oakland needs, it's another billboard. Of course we all need money, but it is also important to take the time to do something different for once, to break the mold (sorry for the cliché) of the wake up-breakfast-work-dinner-sleep routine that so many of us fall victim to. Let's welcome some change to our boring ass cities and do something fun for once. April 3, 2012Sticker? I hardly know her!New stickers are here thanks to our friends at the sticky brand. April 25, 2011The New Silver ScreenWhy television is better than film lately I've heard people say that there's nothing good on TV lately. This is far from the truth; they just need to know where to look. Television shows have the ability to build characters over time to give them incredible depth. Now coming into the fifth season, Mad Men's Don Draper can give the viewer an entire story with a two-word response. What's more are the complex storylines and suspense that builds when you fear one of your favorite characters might be in danger. A movie might have a two-hour buildup to a suspenseful moment, but a TV show can have an entire season of buildup to those moments we all can remember. How many times have you seen the credits come up after a cliffhanger as you let out an aggrivated yet excited groan? and Who can forget this scene from Lost? (SPOILER ALERT) AMC has been superb lately with shows like Breaking Bad, Mad Men, and The Walking Dead. Their newest venture, The Killing, does not disappoint either. If you missed the first four episodes, they are still On Demand, as well as on the AMC website. They even have a suspect tracker to help you decide who the killer might be. With all this extra web content, watching the show is just the beginning of the experience. January 25, 2011Video Days ReunionThe boys from the iconic skate video, Video Days, got together recently for a photo shoot and to reminisce about the good times they had 20 years ago. Does it really feel like 20 years? I'm sure that makes a lot of skateboarders feel pretty old. Anyway, here's some gold from skateboarder mag. You even get to see Mark Gonzales, Guy Mariano, Rudy Johnson, and Jordan Richter recite the song Jason Lee sang at the end of his part.

September 27, 2010Dylan.Man, September is almost over already. Time is flying by. Meant to post this a while ago, but better late than never, right? Apparently Dylan Rieder made this video part as a sort of redemption for his Mind Field part, which was good, but this Gravis part is better. Also be sure to check out his Epicly Later'd episode on VBS.tv. This guy is someone to look out for. |
